The property
A prestigious shooting estate with a Georgian mansion and formal gardens at its heart, with a first class pheasant and partridge shoot, and a total of over 1,000 hectares of arable, grassland and woodland. The team includes gamekeepers, estate staff, gardeners, a house manager and domestic staff.
Our involvement
Mark Charter, our head of estate management, has worked with the estate since he acted to purchase it for the current owners in 1996. Overseeing the estate team, he manages all day-to-day running of the estate, including Basic Payment Scheme applications and compliance – health and safety considerations, construction, design and management regulations, risk assessments, and asbestos surveys.
He has also played a pivotal role in:
- The expansion of the estate from 343 to over 1,000 hectares
- The implementation of the shoot, including planting 24 hectares of woodland to provide game bird habitat
- Setting up contract farming arrangements with local farmers
- Creating and evolving the estate strategy to take advantage of opportunities that arise
