I am a chartered Associate with Carter Jonas based in their Cambridge office. I work with clients across East Anglia on preparing and managing planning applications; providing planning advice in respect of a range of sites, types of development and uses; and negotiating with external consultants and local authorities on behalf of clients. I have an academic background in Geography, Urban Studies and Planning, with masters degrees from the University of Cambridge and the University of Vienna. I am a member of the Young RTPI Committee and the RTPI Regional Management Board for the East of England.

Carter Jonas’ Planning and Development Team have achieved planning permission for 70 homes on a brownfield site off Histon Road, Cambridge.

The site was formerly the Murkitts garage and commercial units, allocated for development in the 2018 Local Plan. Following extensive public consultation and pre-application engagement, the proposals comprises a mix of 25 flats and 45 homes, public open space, and connections through to Histon Road Recreation Ground.

Within the site, 28 affordable homes and 42 new market homes are to be provided, ensuring CIP continue to deliver significant affordable housing across the City. The scheme is of a high quality design with all new homes achieving high sustainability standards. A number of existing trees have been retained and new planting is proposed on site. Opportunities to deliver wider biodiversity enhancements have also been developed. Together with off site enhancements, the scheme will deliver a 20% biodiversity net gain.

A key focus of discussion has been on the connections to the adjacent Histon Road Recreation Ground to the south west. A significant amount of public feedback was received, as well as commentary from planning officers and the Design Review Panel. The project team decided that a connection should be positively planned for to enhance connectivity through the local area.
