Carter Jonas was invited to bid to dispose of the redundant King Edward VII School in Melton Mowbray on behalf of Leicestershire County Council.
The site extended in total to approximately 5.66 hectares (13.98 acres) and consisted of a full range of school buildings including a former reception for the original school and two former hunting lodges. These buildings, whilst not listed, were considered suitable for retention as buildings of Local Historic Interest.
Carter Jonas worked closely with Leicestershire Council to ensure that an outline planning permission was granted for residential purposes for a development of up to 120 dwellings.
A full and open marketing campaign took place including a detailed information pack setting out the planning, technical and legal information and it was agreed to market the site by way of an informal tender.
A number of bids were received in excess of the asking price of £2,500,000 and following the informal tender, an interview process and liaising closely with Leicestershire County Council’s in-house legal department, the sale was completed to Jelson Homes in January 2017.
Carter Jonas has been instructed to dispose of three additional sites on behalf of Leicestershire County Council.
