Johnny Clayton joined Carter Jonas in July 2018 to head up the masterplanning and urban design practice across the UK. Johnny is a Masterplanner and Urban Designer, with a broad skills base and over 16 years of project experience encompassing conceptual design, masterplanning, urban design, detailed design and project implementation. His particular specialism and passion is for strategic land projects including new settlements, but also urban mixed-use regeneration schemes. Johnny is also a Chartered Landscape Architect since 2008.
Due to its strategic location, Luton is under immense development pressure. Expansion of the town is unavoidable. Following discussions with the various local authorities, The Crown Estate appointed Carter Jonas to undertake a study to identify suitable locations within their land holdings.
The study resulted in three key sites being examined for their development potential. Working with in-house planning and viability teams, the Carter Jonas Master Planning team undertook capacity assessments and prepared development strategies for each of the sites.
Combined, the development strategy for the expansion of Luton identifies up to 138 hectares of developable land, with the ability to provide some 1,800 dwellings, as well as new schools, local centres, open space and a range of other community facilities.
